Master Level: The Game That Starts at 400

Last updated: 10 July 2026

At level 400, normal leveling ends and a second progression begins: Master Levels, each granting a point for the Master Skill Tree — passive damage, defense, and enhanced versions of your class skills [Official]. Later seasons stack a further tier, Majestic levels, on top. On the Season 21 content RiftMu runs, this layer runs into the four digits of combined master progression, which makes it — not level 400 itself — the majority of a serious character’s lifetime. Here is how it works and how it interacts with the reset loop.

How master leveling works

  • It starts automatically. Complete your class’s final evolution (see class quests — RiftMu’s /evoquest fast-tracks the chain) and pass 400 in master-EXP maps; kills feed a separate master EXP bar.
  • Master EXP has its own rate. Servers configure it separately from the normal multiplier — expect master levels to come slower per-kill than the 5000x headline suggests, by design: this is the long game.
  • Where it happens: the level-400+ map belt — Ferea, Nixies Lake, Swamp of Darkness, Kubera Mine and the later-season maps (route here). These maps assume endgame gear; master leveling and Ruud gear progression are deliberately intertwined.
  • The tree itself has class-specific branches: universal survivability passives, weapon/damage scaling, and enhanced (“Mastery”) versions of core skills that replace the originals on your bar. Respec-ing is possible via in-game means; plan the first fifty points around your farming skill, not your PvP dream.

Master levels × resets: the design question that decides your pace

On reset servers, the crucial rule is what a reset does to master progress — and it is server-defined, not official. The general pattern across private servers: master levels persist through normal resets (the reset recycles levels 1–400, not the master tree), which turns the endgame into two parallel tracks: resets for stat budget, master levels for the skill tree. RiftMu follows the reset design documented in the reset guide; note that Grand Resets on RiftMu pay Grand Reset Points (not Ruud or master EXP), so the master tree is earned in the field either way. Verify tree behavior in game before spending long sessions around an assumption — the C key window shows your master status live.

Farming master EXP efficiently

  1. Party in the 400+ belt. Master maps are where parties stop being optional for most classes; the spot etiquette from the spots guide applies double here because good master spots are scarce.
  2. Use the event calendar. Boss Battle Together (every 4 hours on RiftMu) and the instanced events pay endgame characters in drops and progression while breaking the grind — live times on /events.
  3. Gear for clear speed, not ego. Master EXP/hour follows kills/hour; a cheaper area-damage setup usually out-earns a expensive single-target one. The upgrade guide orders the investments.
  4. Watch the ladder. The rankings show master-era characters’ pace — the honest benchmark for what “good progress” means on this server right now.

Common mistakes

  • Treating 400 as the finish line. It is the tutorial’s end. Players who burn out at 400 usually never planned for the second game.
  • Hoarding master points “until I decide”. Unspent points are zero DPS. Spend into your farming skill immediately; respec later when you actually PvP.
  • Ignoring Majestic-era systems. On Season 21 content, later master tiers unlock further skill enhancements; if your damage plateaus hard at some master range, the fix is usually tree depth or Ruud gear tier, not more of the same map.
  • Skipping the class quests. No final class evolution, no master tree. /evoquest makes this a minutes-long fix on RiftMu.
