Resets and Grand Resets Explained (RiftMu Values Inside)

Last updated: 10 July 2026

A reset sends your character back to level 1 in exchange for permanent, stacking power — it is the core progression loop on most MU Online private servers [Common on private servers]. On RiftMu the bigger milestone is the Grand Reset, which requires 20 resets, level 400 and 50,000,000 Zen, and pays out Grand Reset Points you can convert into WCoinC.

What a reset is, and why servers use one

Official MU Online has no reset button. On the official service (muonline.webzen.com) you climb the level curve once and long-term progression comes from endgame systems layered on top. Private servers run far higher experience rates — RiftMu's Permanent Realm is 5000x — so a single 1-to-400 climb would be over quickly and the ladder would flatten within days.

Resets solve that [Common on private servers]. Instead of one long climb, the level 1–400 loop becomes a repeatable unit of progression: each completed reset typically raises your stat budget, moves you up the ranking, and opens harder farming spots. It also keeps the economy alive, because every loop generates Zen, jewels and event runs. If you are brand new to the game, read the MU Online overview first so the reset loop has context.

How a reset works in practice

The loop looks like this on almost every reset server, RiftMu included:

  1. Level to the reset cap. In modern seasons this is usually level 400 [Common on private servers]; the in-game command tells you exactly what is still missing if you try early.
  2. Cover the fee. Most servers charge Zen per reset, often scaling with your reset count [varies by server], so never walk around completely broke.
  3. Run the command. On RiftMu that is /reset. VIP 5 and above can use /reset auto, which fires the reset automatically the moment the character qualifies — the single biggest quality-of-life unlock for heavy grinders.
  4. Redistribute your stats. Use /addstr X, /addagi X, /addvit X, /addene X and /addcmd X to place points instantly. /addstr auto X keeps allocating as you level. The full list is in the commands and hotkeys guide.

What happens to your stats and level after the command varies by server. Some servers burn stats back to base values and grant a fixed bonus per reset; others let everything accumulate and simply add more points on top. That one setting changes build maths completely, so treat stat advice written for another server as suspect until you have confirmed the rule on the realm you play. Your items, inventory and vault are not touched by the reset itself [Common on private servers].

RiftMu Grand Reset requirements

A Grand Reset consumes your accumulated reset count and starts the cycle again at a higher account tier. These are the exact requirements on RiftMu:

RequirementValue on RiftMu
Resets completed20
Character level400
Zen fee50,000,000
Reward1 Grand Reset Point per reset counted, capped at 20

The Zen fee is the part players fumble most. 50,000,000 Zen is easy to earn across 20 resets but just as easy to spend — the Chaos Machine, shop repairs and per-reset costs all drain the same wallet. Start ring-fencing a Grand Reset fund two or three resets before you hit 20, and see the upgrade guide for how to budget jewels and Zen side by side.

The Grand Reset Point economy

Grand Reset Points (GRP) are what make the grind pay. You earn 1 point per reset counted toward the Grand Reset, capped at 20 — so a full 20-reset Grand Reset grants 20 points, and any resets past 20 add nothing extra to the payout.

GRP exchange ruleValue on RiftMu
Exchange rate15,000 WCoinC per Grand Reset Point
Daily limit20 exchanges per day
Event checkBlood Castle, Devil Square or Chaos Castle within roughly the last 2 days
Quest checkDaily quest completed

Run the arithmetic: a full Grand Reset converted at 15,000 WCoinC per point is worth 300,000 WCoinC, which is serious purchasing power. The anti-abuse checks exist so AFK farms cannot print WCoins. If the exchange refuses you, run a Blood Castle or Chaos Castle, finish the daily quest, then try again — the current start times are always live on the events page.

Reset now or keep leveling?

The right call depends on which realm you play. RiftMu currently runs two worlds, and their pace is deliberately different:

Permanent Realm (5000x)Speed Realm Summer Edition (99,999x)
Climb to 400Quick early, noticeably slower as reset count growsTrivial — treat the reset like a cooldown
When to resetImmediately on early resets; at higher counts, finish your event bracket and Zen farming firstThe moment the command allows it — reset count is the whole point of the realm
Long-term stakesNever closes, no wipes; this is your main homeCloses after a few weeks; you may export 2 characters to the Permanent Realm

On the Permanent Realm, reset instantly while resets are cheap and fast. Once each climb starts taking real sessions, squeeze the level you already have: run Blood Castle and Devil Square in your current level bracket before resetting, because the reset drops you back to the lowest bracket, and top up your Zen while your kill speed is at its peak.

The Speed Realm Summer Edition (opened 10 July 2026) is a catch-up world: 99,999x EXP plus a Blood Angel set in your starting inventory means the 1–400 climb barely registers. Stack resets aggressively, but remember only 2 characters export to the Permanent Realm when it closes — concentrate your resets on the one or two characters you actually intend to keep. Not sure which realm suits you? The server selection guide breaks it down.

Common mistakes

  • Stockpiling resets past 20 before Grand Resetting. GR points cap at 20 on RiftMu; reset number 21 onward earns nothing extra toward the payout.
  • Dropping below 50,000,000 Zen right before the Grand Reset. One careless Chaos Machine session can push the milestone back a week.
  • Assuming the GRP exchange is broken. Nine times out of ten it is the event-participation or daily-quest check, not a bug.
  • Resetting mid-bracket. If you are one Blood Castle run away from your bracket reward, do the run first — the reset changes your bracket instantly.
  • Copying stat builds from other servers. Whether stats burn or accumulate after a reset varies by server, and a build tuned for the wrong rule wastes every point.
  • Spreading Speed Realm resets across five alts. Only 2 characters export at realm close; four of those five projects evaporate.

FAQ

Do I lose my items or jewels when I reset?

No. A reset recycles your level, not your gear. On private servers your inventory, vault and equipped items are not touched by the reset itself; what varies is how stat points are handled afterwards, so check the realm rules before your first reset.

How many Grand Reset Points does one Grand Reset give on RiftMu?

You earn 1 Grand Reset Point per reset counted toward the Grand Reset, capped at 20. A full 20-reset Grand Reset therefore grants 20 points, and extra resets beyond 20 do not add more.

Why is my Grand Reset Point exchange being refused?

The exchange runs anti-abuse checks. You need recent event participation, meaning Blood Castle, Devil Square or Chaos Castle within roughly the last two days, plus a completed daily quest, and you are limited to 20 exchanges per day at 15,000 WCoinC per point.
