RiftMu does not publish custom rate multipliers, so treat the in-game display as authoritative and this page as the explanation of what moves it. What follows is how the odds are built, what you control, and the bankroll rules that separate players who mix from players who donate their jewels to the machine.

What the machine is actually rolling

Every mix has a base success chance set by the recipe, modified by ingredient quality [Official mechanics]:

• Recipe base rate. Item plus-upgrades (+10 through +15), wing mixes, Combo Ring mixes and event-item mixes each carry their own base.
• Added jewels raise wing/creation mixes. For creation-type mixes (wings, special items), stacking extra Jewels of Bless and Soul into the mix raises the displayed rate toward its cap. This is the lever: the ingredients are cheap relative to the mix stake at the high tiers.
• Luck option: +25% on upgrades. An item with the Luck option adds twenty-five percentage points to Chaos Machine plus-upgrade attempts [Official]. This is the single largest controllable modifier in the game — it is why lucky base items sell at a premium (see item quality tiers).

Bankroll rules that survive the math

1. Expected-value thinking beats streak thinking. A 40% mix fails six times in ten — three failures in a row is not the machine “being cold”, it is Tuesday. Budget attempts in advance: stake × attempts you can afford, or do not start.
2. Buy Luck before buying attempts. One lucky base item (+25%) is worth more than several extra tries at the unlucky rate — run the numbers each time; they usually say pay the Luck premium.
3. Upgrade to the safe line, gamble past it deliberately. The +9 ceiling is jewel-only territory (no destruction via Bless/Soul rules below +10 [Official]); the machine game starts at +10. Decide which items deserve the gamble — the what-to-upgrade-first guide exists exactly for that call.
4. At high tiers, consider being the seller. Selling materials to gamblers is the statistically boring, reliably profitable side of the wing economy (the wings guide covers when to switch sides).

Common mistakes

• Mixing the only copy of your gear. The machine eats main weapons every day. Upgrade the spare, swap on success.
• Adding rate-raising jewels to cheap mixes. The lever is for stakes that hurt; raising a trivial mix from 80% to 90% wastes the jewels that should raise a wing mix from 60% to its cap.
• Trusting third-party rate tables over the window. Every server tunes rates; only the window knows yours.
• Gambling on tilt. The machine will still be there tomorrow; your jewel stash might not.
