Every MU Online Class, By the Season That Added It

Last updated: 10 July 2026

MU Online launched in 2001 with three classes; a quarter-century later the roster stands at sixteen. The release order matters for two practical reasons: it tells you which classes exist on a server of any given season (the fastest honest season check there is — class rosters are much harder to fake than a website banner), and it explains why classes feel generationally different to play. All sixteen are playable on RiftMu’s Season 21 realms; each name below links to its reference page in our class overview.

The roster in release order

Season eras are given by the era the class became broadly available on the global service; sub-part timing varied by region, so treat the era — not an exact patch date — as the claim.

ClassEra addedGeneration traits
Dark KnightOriginal (2001)The founding trio: pure archetypes (melee / caster / archer-support), full 5-stage evolution chains, gear from every era of the game.
Dark WizardOriginal (2001)
ElfOriginal (2001)
Magic GladiatorPre-season era (2002–2003)The first veteran classes: account-unlock gates (the 220/250 rules), 7 stat points per level, compressed evolution chains.
Dark LordPre-season era (2003–2005)
SummonerSeason 3The first post-launch caster; curse/debuff identity.
Rage FighterSeason 6The classic era’s last class — and therefore the newest class on every Season 6 nostalgia server.
Grow LancerSeason 12The modern-era opener: mobile lance duelist.
Rune WizardSeason 15The one-per-season wave: each ships nearly complete rather than growing through legacy stages, with self-contained gear tracks.
SlayerSeason 16
Gun CrusherSeason 17
Light WizardSeason 18
Lemuria MageSeason 19The Season 19 pair; Illusion Knight’s clone-based kit is the era’s mechanical standout.
Illusion KnightSeason 19
AlchemistSeason 19–20 boundaryDebuff-and-detonate caster — full build notes in our Alchemist guide.
CrusaderSeason 21The sixteenth and newest class — see the Crusader guide. Its presence on a server is the definitive “this really is Season 21” tell.

Every class in this table has a dedicated build guide in our library — if you are deciding what to play rather than checking history, start from the class-selection hub and follow it to your class’s own guide.

Using this table as a season detector

Open any server’s character creation screen and find the newest class present:

  • Ends at Rage Fighter (7 classes) → Season 6 era files.
  • Has Slayer but no Gun Crusher → Season 16 era.
  • Has Illusion Knight but no Crusader → Season 19–20 era.
  • Has Crusader → genuine Season 21 (16 classes). This is RiftMu’s roster.

A server whose advertised season disagrees with its own creation screen has answered a more important question than which season it runs — the current season page and fake-server guide pick that thread up.

What generation means for your main

  • Original-trio classes have the deepest gear pools (every era made items for them) and the longest evolution chains — the most “MU-classic” experience.
  • Veteran classes (MG/DL) trade chain depth for leveling speed — historically gated, usually open on high-rate servers.
  • Modern classes (S12+) are the most self-contained: newer kits, own gear tracks, generally the strongest “works out of the box” feel — at the price of thinner hand-me-down markets for their gear on younger servers.

On RiftMu specifically, all sixteen compete under the same 60,000-stat cap and reset design, so generational balance is flatter than official history suggests — pick by playstyle from the class overview, not by age.
